+friday night flashback: iio+

Trance music has been picking me up lately and helping me make it through the day with a little more cheerfulness than usual. I’ve been a fan of the trance genre since 2000, and these days it feels like when I listen to trance, I’m rediscovering an old friend that I’ve missed dearly. Not to say that I ever stopped listening to it, but I’ve started to go back and listen to some of the first songs that got me into trance. Which brings me to tonight’s flashback.

I don’t entirely remember how I became a true trance fan. I just remember that I got turned on to Digitally Imported and immediately took to the genre. I noticed that everything some guy named Armin Van Buuren had remixed was amazing, and this Tiesto guy wasn’t too shabby either. Motorcycle’s hit “As the Rush Comes” became an instant favorite, but I think I liked tonight’s song even before that.

“Rapture” by Iio is true trance, especially when it’s remixed by the best. The Soulside Remix is a dreamy chillout song, while Armin Van Buuren’s remix is ready for the hottest clubs. Vocalist Nadia Ali has such a smooth way of delivering the lyrics, which convey what it really feels like when we first fall in love. I have always loved this song, and I still listen to it all the way through when it comes on shuffle. Originally released as a single in 2001, this track finally appeared on a full-length album in 2006.

Sugar, you make my soul complete. Rapture tastes so sweet.

This is “Rapture” by Iio, from the album Poetica (2006). Enjoy.
